PERAN KOPERASI SIMPAN PINJAM DAN PEMBIAYAAN SYARIAH (KSPPS) DALAM PEMBERDAYAAN EKONOMI UMAT: TINJAUAN KONSEPTUAL

Abstract


The Sharia Savings and Loan Cooperatives (Koperasi Simpan Pinjam dan Pembiayaan Syariah or KSPPS) play a significant role in empowering the economy of the Muslim community amid the growth of Islamic economics. As of 2023, there are approximately 1,800 KSPPS units operating nationwide, with over 2 million registered members. The total assets owned by KSPPS are estimated at around IDR 10 trillion, reflecting substantial financial strength in supporting economic empowerment efforts. This study aims to analyze the role of KSPPS as an instrument for empowering the Muslim economy through a literature review approach. The method employed involves a literature review by collecting and analyzing relevant references such as journal articles and books on Islamic economics and microfinance institutions. The findings indicate that KSPPS can enhance the welfare of the Muslim community through productive financing and services based on Islamic values, while also promoting the independence of its members. However, challenges such as low Islamic financial literacy, limited capital, and intense competition remain prevalent. With proper governance, KSPPS can make a significant contribution to the economic development of the Muslim community. This study provides a conceptual framework and recommendations for institutional development and operational capacity improvement.
