SPEAKING MATERIALS IN “BAHASA INGGRIS” USED BY THE TWELFTH GRADE OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL
Abstract
The current study seeks to find out the degrees of linguistic supports, content-based and affective supports, skill supports, and diversity as well as flexibility of speaking materials in “Bahasa Inggris‟. Using Bao‟s criteria of selecting a textbook, we found out that „Bahasa Inggris‟ had good linguistic support, but not in affective support. The current textbook “Bahasa Inggris” was supported by good language skills, but its diversity and flexibility were not satisfying. It seemed that the materials did not fully support students' inspiration, imagination, creativity, and cultural sensibilities. Consequently, the book lacked spoken language characteristics, communication function, strategies, and varieties.
