Peran Taman Bacaan Masyarakat Mutiara Hati Dalam Edukasi Kebencanaan Bagi Anak Melalui Cerita Lokal Di Kota Bukittinggi

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Community Reading Park (TBM) Mutiara Hati in disaster education for children through local storytelling. The study is motivated by the high disaster risk in Bukittinggi City and the importance of introducing disaster awareness from an early age using child-friendly educational approaches. Local storytelling was used as an educational medium because it delivers disaster-related messages in a simple, engaging, and culturally relevant way for children. This research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving TBM managers, parents, and children participating in the activities. The findings show that TBM Mutiara Hati functions as a nonformal learning space that supports disaster education through storytelling sessions, folklore reading, educational games, and creative activities based on local narratives. These activities help children understand disaster risks, preparedness attitudes, and environmental awareness. However, the program still faces challenges such as limited learning media and the absence of a structured disaster education curriculum for children. The study concludes that TBM has a strategic role as a child-friendly, community-based disaster education space rooted in local culture.
