The prevention of plagiarism is essential as it upholds scientific and academic integrity. Therefore, Mashdar: Jurnal Studi Ilmu-ilmu al-Qur'an dan Hadis utilizes Turnitin Software for controlling and addressing plagiarism concerns.
In order for an article to be accepted for the peer review stage, the similarity rate must be a maximum of 20%, excluding the references/bibliography section.
All authors must be aware of several indicators of plagiarism, which include:
-
Word-for-Word Plagiarism (Repeated Content): This is the most easily identifiable form, occurring when an author copies another author's work by reciting words, sentences, or paragraphs without citing the original sources. This model of plagiarism can be easily identified by our plagiarism checker software.
-
Substantial Plagiarism: This type of plagiarism occurs when an author reproduces a substantial part of another writer's work without proper citation. The term "reproducing substance" here refers to copying another's ideas, in terms of both quantity and quality, which potentially infringes upon the original author's intellectual property rights.
-
Idea/Paraphrased Plagiarism Without Source: This occurs when an author takes ideas, words, or phrases in paraphrased sentences or paragraphs without citing the original source. This type of plagiarism often cannot be checked through plagiarism software, as it is idea-based. However, this practice is deemed unethical when the author fails to cite or acknowledge the original source.
Included in this category is self-plagiarism, where authors publish one article in more than one publication editor or recycle papers/works of their own. What is important in self-plagiarism is that when drawing upon one's own previous works, the new work produced must demonstrate a meaningful change. This means that the old work should only constitute a small part of the new work produced. Readers should therefore receive new material that genuinely reflects the author's current contribution, using the old paper only partially.
