WARISAN BUDAYA PENGOBATAN HERBAL DALAM PENGUATAN PEMBERDAYAAN MASYARAKAT MELALUI HERBASOKA
Abstract
Local cultural practices related to traditional herbal medicine constitute an important yet underexplored sociocultural asset in community empowerment initiatives. In many rural areas, including Kalisoka Hamlet, the use of family medicinal plants (TOGA) such as rosella, moringa, turmeric, and bay leaves is deeply embedded in local knowledge and communal traditions, but has not been systematically developed into sustainable socio-economic programs. Previous studies on TOGA-based interventions tend to focus on health outcomes, with limited attention to cultural values and collective practices that sustain their continuity. This study aims to analyze the role of local culture in strengthening community empowerment through the Herbasoka program as a culturally rooted herbal innovation. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method using the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach, emphasizing cultural assets, mutual cooperation, and the involvement of PKK women. The findings reveal that Herbasoka not only revitalized traditional herbal knowledge as part of local cultural identity, but also strengthened social cohesion and generated household-based economic opportunities. Practically, this study offers a culturally adaptive empowerment model for rural communities. Theoretically, it contributes to sociocultural studies by positioning local wisdom as a strategic foundation for sustainable community development.
