Bengkel Kata: Journal of Islamic and Multidisciplinary Humanities was established to strengthen academic literacy and research skills among students at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang. It originated from the 2023 Popular and Scholarly Article Writing Training, aimed at enhancing academic competencies and cultivating critical thinkers and skilled “wordsmiths,” leading to the official establishment of UKM Bengkel Kata: Research & Publication on 7 August 2023. In 2024, the Student Literacy Camp (SLC) was held for high-achieving students, also serving as a selection pathway for the Student Mobility Program (SMP) abroad, followed by SIBac-SIP 2024, which sent students to Turkey and Australia for short courses, university visits, and community service. The journal’s academic ecosystem was further strengthened through a scientific journal management program in November–December 2024 with experienced academics, including Alfred, M.Si., Dr. Abdullah Khusairi, M.A., and Prof. Welhendri Azwar, M.Si., Ph.D.
Philosophically, “Bengkel Kata” represents an intellectual laboratory where ideas and research are refined into high-value scholarly works, symbolizing innovation, collaboration, and constructive academic dialogue. Published twice a year (June and December) by UKM Bengkel Kata: Research & Publication at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, with support from Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LP2M) UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, the journal covers Islamic Studies, Islamic Education, Islamic Law and Society, Islamic Economics and Finance, Islamic Communication and Da’wah Studies, Philosophy and Intellectual Traditions of Islam, Islam, Culture and Society, and Multidisciplinary Humanities, bridging historical, cultural, linguistic, media, and contemporary issues in the global Muslim community.
