Abstract

This study focuses on the study of meaning based on contextual theory and behavioral theory, where changes in behavior will occur due to the emphasis on using stimuli and responses to produce desired behavior, as well as increasing participation and motivation. Research data was obtained through literature studies, namely by collecting relevant literature, articles, journals and sources that discuss behaviorist and contextual theories in semantic studies. From the studies conducted, it was found that behaviorist theory and contextual theory in semantic studies focus the analysis of language meaning on the interaction between stimulus and response, as well as the social and situational context that influences meaning. Behaviorism theory emphasizes that behavior, including reactions, is caused by stimuli, and the meaning of language can be understood through the analysis of human behavior. Meanwhile, contextual theory views language meaning as the result of interactions between language, culture and situations. These two theories offer different perspectives in understanding the meaning of language and how that meaning is influenced by factors related to behavior and context. It can be concluded that in semantic studies, behaviorism and contextual theories are used to understand how language meaning is understood and used in various situations, as well as how this meaning is influenced by interactions between individuals and the environment.
