ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS' SCIENTIFIC LITERACY THROUGH THE SSI-ORIENTED PBL MODEL ON HYDROCARBON MATERIALS

Abstract


Scientific literacy can help students to participate in understanding community policies regarding scientific issues that have an impact on life around them. However, students' scientific literacy in Indonesia as seen based on PISA and TIMSS data is still low. Therefore, it is necessary to apply the SSI-oriented PBL model by linking social scientific issues, namely plastic waste, as learning content to hydrocarbon material. The aim of this research is to analyze students' scientific literacy through the SSI-oriented PBL model on hydrocarbon material. This research method uses descriptive quantitative. The research design used was a One-Group Pretest-Posttest pre-experiment. The sample in this study was class XI students of SMAN 1 Sapeken from class MIA 1 and class MIA 2 in the 2023/2024 academic year. The results of this research show that the analysis of students' scientific literacy profiles through the Socio Scientific Issues-oriented Problem Based Learning learning model on hydrocarbon material is within good criteria. These results were obtained from posttest data for the scientific literacy of class XI MIA students which showed good criteria with a score of 77.41% from 34 students. It is hoped that this research can raise awareness among students to protect the environment from the negative impacts of plastic waste.
