A STUDY OF STUDENTS’ DIFFICULTIES IN WRITING ANALYTICAL EXPOSITION TEXT AT CLASS XI OF SOCIAL SCIENCE OF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL 3 KOTA SOLOK

Abstract


The purpose of this research was to find out the writing difficulties in writing on analytical exposition text and causes of students’ difficulties in writing analytical exposition text. This research was a descriptive qualitative research type. Twenty five of 160 students in academic year 2018/2019 were respondent of this research. Interview sheet was used instrument of this research. Data was analyzed by using data reduction, description and conclusion the finding. The result of this research showed that there were three types of students’ difficulties in writing analytical exposition text were linguistic aspect, physiology aspect, and cognitive aspect. First, linguistic aspect had some components, namely grammar, vocabulary, language use and choice of sentence. In linguistic aspect were mostly in vocabulary. Second, physiology aspect had one component, namely developing written material or content. In physiology aspect, the students just difficult in developing written material or content. Last, cognitive aspect also had some components, namely mechanic (spelling, punctuation, capitalization and paragraphing). In cognitive aspect were mostly in paragraphing. Besides that, three causes of students’ difficulties in writing analytical exposition text, namely interlingua transfer, intralingua transfer and lack of vocabulary. From three causes of students’ difficulties mostly was in lack of vocabulary. And causes of students difficulties in writing analytical exposition text was mostly in lack of vocabulary. It is recommended to the English teacher solving the students’ difficulties and improving students writing.
