The journal was established in 2019 and released its first volume in the same year. Tarikhuna was initially published in print format and later transitioned entirely to an online version. Since early 2021, the journal has undergone significant developments as part of its ongoing commitment to improving publication quality. Currently, Tarikhuna is accredited Sinta 4 in the Indonesian national journal ranking system.
The journal publishes scholarly articles in the fields of history and history education, covering topics such as Indonesian history, Islamic history in Southeast Asia, environmental history, collective memory, rural and urban history, agricultural history, and history learning, including text-based learning within Islamic education contexts.
